This story begins with Evangeline Fox taking a chance and approaching the Fate- Jacks， the Prince of Hearts to stop the wedding of her first love to her step-sister。 The reader is then taken on a magical adventure weaving in fairytales and legends accompanied by a range of emotions and intrigue。 I was completely enchanted by this book and my only complaint is that I now have to wait for the next book in the series。

I kept waiting for something to happen in the first half of the book。 I often felt like I was missing something as I read and I think that’s due to lack of world building。 It wasn’t until after I finished reading this book that I learned it was part of a previously established world from another series。 None of the characters particularly stood out to me。 The ending was okay。 However I find the prophecy intriguing enough for me to read the next book。

I will start by saying that if you are looking to read this newest book by Stephanie Garber， I highly recommend reading the Caraval trilogy first。 This book takes place in the same， wonderfully rich universe and focuses on one of the more fantastically， morally grey anti-heroes that I have read in Jacks。I enjoyed the Caraval series and have to say that I do miss Legend but if you can believe it， I think I actually love this book even more。 Jacks and Evangeline are both complex and fantastically I will start by saying that if you are looking to read this newest book by Stephanie Garber， I highly recommend reading the Caraval trilogy first。 This book takes place in the same， wonderfully rich universe and focuses on one of the more fantastically， morally grey anti-heroes that I have read in Jacks。I enjoyed the Caraval series and have to say that I do miss Legend but if you can believe it， I think I actually love this book even more。 Jacks and Evangeline are both complex and fantastically flawed leads。 Their dynamic and the sparks that fly as we are drawn further into the quest of each are incredible。 I don't want to spoil the plot or ending for anyone but I will say that Ms。 Garber does not disappoint and we are led all the way until the end of the book to a crescendo of strategic and selfish plotting and the pure determination of Evangeline to set things right。 If you enjoy a mystical and magical world， these books are for you。 I listened to this in audiobook form and loved the narrator。 I will say my verdict is still out on Jacks but you also can't help but be drawn in。 I look forward to the coming sequel and seeing where these characters' journeys take us next。 。。。more

THAT ENDING。 ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME。There is something so gripping about the way Stephanie Garber writes - I was literally up all last night reading and could not put it down。 I thought that this series wouldn’t be able to compare now that it’d be a different setting from Caraval， and I definitely had my doubts on whether I’d be able to buy into Evangeline x Jacks after shipping Tella x Jacks so hard in the Caraval series。 But there was so much more relationship development in this book bet THAT ENDING。 ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME。There is something so gripping about the way Stephanie Garber writes - I was literally up all last night reading and could not put it down。 I thought that this series wouldn’t be able to compare now that it’d be a different setting from Caraval， and I definitely had my doubts on whether I’d be able to buy into Evangeline x Jacks after shipping Tella x Jacks so hard in the Caraval series。 But there was so much more relationship development in this book between the main love interests， and I felt like the plot actually moved much faster in this book than the Caraval series in general。 As much as I am for lauding praise， I currently half-hate/half-love Stephanie Garber for that ending alsdkfjsldfkjlsdf I need the next book NOW 。。。more
